Welcome

Welcome to my new venture. It’s a Web site I call The Parent Pill.

What is a Parent Pill and what can it do for you? I’m darn glad you asked. Because if you find parenting is sometimes stressful (and who doesn’t?) and if life seems just too busy, you need a good dose of this ‘medication.’ You really do. The Parent Pill will help you to relax a bit, restore a little more balance to your life, and see the humorous side of parenting.

In fact, the premise for creating this pill is that as parents, we need to chill. (remember the phrase ‘take a chill pill?’) We are putting way too much stress on ourselves to be perfect. The Parent Pill suggests that you can be an even better parent by doing a little less parenting. Grab a cup of coffee and let me explain…

Today’s parents place an awful lot of pressure on themselves to be almost superhuman: To put our kids in the best preschools, to expose them to every sport, musical instrument and extracurricular activity under the sun (before the age of 5), to excel in school, and to have a full social calendar. That, coupled with the economic and societal pressures of keeping up with the Jones’ has stressed many of us out (yes, myself included!) and, in some cases, our kids too. I’ve actually heard a child use the term ‘crazy busy.’

We need to chill.

My parent friends – newly turned Parent Pill addicts - and I often talk about the ‘good ole days’ when we were kids. The truth is that kids haven’t changed all that much, we have.

We need to chill. And it is my firm belief that coming here – to basically laugh at ourselves - can create the framework for a less stressful more enjoyable parenting experience. But that’s just the beginning of our Parent Pill journey. It’s sort of like a 12-step program but I haven’t figured out what the other 11 steps are yet. But this much I do know; keeping a keen sense of humor will light the way. Are you with me?

Of course you are! Welcome. It’s going to be a fun ride…
