As for the Sox...

I'll admit it - I'm still recovering from our bad decision to turn off the game in the bottom of the 7th last night. (I'm sure I don't feel half as bad as the people who blew out of Fenway!) But we are life-long New Englanders and we should have known better. When you're a Red Sox fan, it ain't over until Big Papi says it is!!

As a parent, I also feel a little guilty for making the kids go to bed...so what if they had been a little tired at school today - it's Friday after all! Oh my God - have I become a party pooper?
Dear Miss Tabby - know this is not about the red sox (and how dare I be looking at your blog while they are on..but need help and know you are the woman I can turn to!!) Holidays again!!! UGH!!! We have successfully managed to plan our thanksgiving holiday without having to spend it with family!!! This has taken years to accomplish....however, now that we have decided to "opt out" of the holiday and do something "just us", everyone else is jumping in on the bandwagon - they all want to be included in our plans!! How do we tactfully, yet forcefully, let them know that we purposely planned this holiday to get away from them all?? I don't care if you "just happen to be in the neighborhood" where we'll be, or that "oh, we were thinking of the same thing, we should do it together" - we don't want to see you! Why do you think we are traveling miles and miles away to celebrate this holiday?
ReplyDeleteHelp, Miss Tabby!!!!
I too would like to hear the answer to this question. We have some family members and friends who don't seem to understand that if we wanted them to come somewhere with us, we would have invited them. Is there something we can say short of, "When we say that we want to get away from everyone, that includes you too."
ReplyDeleteYes, this is a tough one. What we have learned to do is to just say "We are so excited to get away, just the 4 of us, for some time together." The "just" part is key. You really need to spell it out and not feel guilty about it. Good luck!!!
