Hey Sue
ReplyDeleteThis was so funny! Boy can I relate to the Family Guy video!
Keep up the great work!

You ask why the Dads aren't treated the same ... that's a tough question, but I've noticed it as well. I think it's because Dads don't respond the same way as the Moms. In my house, the answer from Dad is the answer, regardless of how many times the kids appeal. And Dad doesn't feel guilty for giving an unpopular answer.
ReplyDeleteSue - like the web cast. Here is what I would like people to weigh in on either here or you can address in your next Web: Public Schools vs. Private Schools. I'm truly interested in what parents have to say about this. My daughter goes to Kindergarten next year and our town has school choice (that is a discussion right there in itself) and we are on the fence about how to go...someone in this blog mentioned Montessori - what is the deal with that route? Those that have their kids in private school, are you happy about it? Pros/Cons? Anyone? Also, for those that went the private school route, if you could do it over again, would you STILL pay the $$ to do so?
ReplyDeleteThanks Angel & Mary,
ReplyDeleteI can't tell you how much everyone's support and kind words mean to me. This is a time intensive project but a labor of love - I'm really enjoying it.
Joe - good point about how moms and dads parent differently. I think you are right about that.
Joanne - go nuts with your fur crocs but please don't show up at my house with them on...lol
anonymous - I love that topic. It's an interesting one. My daughters go to a charter school that embraces a Montessori philosophy (K-8)...we have been extremely pleased with the education our kids are getting, it's a very hands-on approach. I'm not saying it's the route for everyone, but it's worked for us. In terms of high school, we are just beginning to think about public vs. private...I don't know how people afford private high school here in the Northeast. Anyone have any experience or thoughts on that?
Other than some mysterious relative passing away and leaving me an obscene amount of cash, I can't fathom how people shell out $20K per year (or more) for HIGH SCHOOL...my husband and I thought well, ok, maybe we could afford like a Montessori-like school for K-8 but then to jump to the ridiculous cost of private high school - whoa! And then pass out cold when we get the college tuition bill? Yikes. It is the worst Catch-22 I can think of...give them a specialized education in smaller classes for 8 years but throw them to the wolves for the next 4 (with new kids they have not known for 8 yrs in a class of 30 per) or splurge for 12yrs get them into a prestigious college and say, woops...fresh out of money...sorry!
ReplyDeleteI wish I knew the answer, let me know if you figure out how people do it because I don't think we have any rich relatives with a bad cough...
ReplyDeleteWell, as I previously wrote, I know I don't have the answer...I'm thinking it will be public school for twelve years and a ritual of silent prayer that my children have somehow inherited my husband's athletic abilities, which will hopefully result in a volleyball scholarship that will lead to some sort of endorsement that will pay for both college and putting Mommy and Daddy in a home. This is actually a more realistic scenario then us funding 12 yrs of private school and then a Top 10 College. This will also prevent my children from having to introduce their parents as "those two scary can-collecting freaks that live in their car so that I could go to Buckingham, Browne, and Nichols."
ReplyDeleteNoticed you knocking crocs, but need to know - did you own any Jelly shoes in the 80's? They were the crocs of their time!!!
ReplyDeleteCroc are ugly and I am just as surprised as you by there popularity. Tracey you have found your calling-you nut! Peach pie anyone?
