Just looking over summer camp info today and trying to figure out how I am going to cover 10 weeks of summer vacation without going broke. And who knew there were so many options? Are you kidding me? There is every kind of camp you can possibly imagine available to kids these days - sports camps, arts camps, drama camps, overnight, day, 1/2 day - if you want a camp for underwater basket-weaving, they've got one.
And if you think I'm jumping the gun by worrying about summer camp in February - you're way wrong. Some camps are already full! Getting your kids into the best camps has obviously become a competitive sport these days. When I was a kid there were only two options - go out and play or...don't. Maybe our kids will be more well rounded but I don't remember feeling deprived. And I have fond memories of long summer days playing hop scotch and Barbies and jump rope. All free by the way.

What happened to making gimp bracelets at the local playground?
have never really been into sending the kids to camp - but one day into feb. vacation and I am ready to send everyone away for "sleep away entire summer" camp ..ugh!!! why do my children think my real name is "julie" from love boat and I love coming up with ideas, activities, all fabulous of course, to keep them thoroughly entertained every second of every day?? (sound bitter, huh?)
ReplyDeleteI know EXACTLY what you're talking about sister! I feel like I'm supposed to be a dancing juggler in a circus act to keep them entertained.
ReplyDeletehow about you send them to work in a sweatshop.
ReplyDeleteDear Anonymous - if only that were montessori, I'd totally sign up for that!!
ReplyDeleteevery year I think, this will be the summer that I put the girls (3 of them)into the car and go for a road trip. No real plans, just drive and see places we have never seen. Be a real adventurer. Then, we run an errands. That involves getting in and out of the car 2 or 3 times. And perhaps logging an 1 1/2 in the car...
ReplyDeleteI am online, looking at summer camps as we speak!
Dear Other Sue - I have thought the same thing!! Wouldn't it be so great to go cross country with all four children and see all the sites! Then I get into the car and listen to the four of them fight over radio stations, fight b/c someone is touching someone else, fight b/c someone is looking at someone else, fight b/c it's their turn to sit in front, etc etc and am I come to my senses - cars are not meant to hold all children and their mother for more than 5 miles at a time!!!
ReplyDeleteTracey, glad to hear I am not the only one. I am thinking of moving to the city, merely for the use of public transportation. I can put each one in a different section. Or I could go cross country and leave one in each city.....
ReplyDeletejust kidding, (in case DSS monitors this site).
Okay so "the other Sue" and "Tracey" need to meet, you're both apparently in the running for Mother of the Year. I'm always second place for that one. Darn.
