From our guest contributer, Michael Katz. I love technology. But I have to tell you, there are times when it drives me crazy. Like this afternoon.

There was a video on YouTube that I wanted to watch (don’t ask) and I couldn’t hear it through the little speakers in my laptop. So I got out my 12-year-old daughter Emily’s computer headset, plugged in the jacks and sat back to listen.

Nothing. Just a faint, distant, teeny-tiny voice coming from somewhere far away. It was like Vincent Price in the original movie, The Fly, where at the end he looks up and yells in his little fly voice: “Help me. Help me.”
But I digress. I figured something’s not set right, so I started fiddling with all the settings I could find for audio on my computer. "Designate this as input device," "Unmute headset configuration," blah, blah, blah. You get the picture. But still, nothing.

Then, and believe me, I’m not making this up, Emily walks in and points out that instead of the computer headset, I’ve been wearing the headset that’s connected to the telephone. Nothing matches the look on the face of a 12-year-old that says, "Dad, you are such a dope."
I hate technology.
