Back by popular demand, another installment by my guest contributor, Sue Thomson.
Ah, the mother-in-law. They are a necessity. We couldn’t have fallen for that hunk-a-hunka burning love had she not given birth to him now could we? So for that, we are forever indebted to her. She is the only woman who can press ‘trousers’ and pleated skirts - and like it. Thank God for that, I hate ironing. I would actually prefer dental work to an afternoon of pressing the wrinkles out of my husband’s "wrinkle- free" shirts. I am still trying to find anyone else who calls them trousers though.

My husband, but her son first, likes meatloaf...her meatloaf. I believe it is one of his favorite meals. I gag at the thought of it. I think meatloaf was discovered when the cook was sick so the maid pulled a nasty bunch of stuff from the refrigerator, threw it in a pan, and called it dinner. Hamburger, breadcrumbs, onion, and eggs? Doesn’t that sound like a mistake? It also sounds like a great thing for her to cook when he visits on the nights I go out with my girlfriends. Now don’t get me wrong, I am no Julia Childs. My idea of seasoning is salt and pepper, maybe oregano if I am feeling dangerous. Lucky man, that husband of mine.

I am also quite a house cleaner. I cleaned yesterday in fact. I threw everything on top of the beds so that the real house cleaner could find the floors and vacuum them. I am the mistress of piles. Everything has a pile and every pile has its place. It's a great system. I have an extra table in my dining room that I pretend no one else can see. That is where everything goes on cleaning day. It is an amazingly strong table. I have also hidden many presents under that heap, and my children have no idea. Some think ew...I think genius. I also make sure I clean when I know my mother-in-law is coming over. However, she has a key. So we get surprise inspections, I mean visits. But I can’t complain, she is usually dropping off the ironing she has finished and picking up a new pile! So hats off to my mother-in-law, I am getting her new white gloves for Christmas.
