Are you kidding me? GM wants the federal government - and that means us - to bail them out to the tune of 22 billion? What next - my left arm, my first born? Hey, I have an idea - why not make better cars or stop paying your CEOs multi-million dollar bonuses for poor performance...or both? Leave us alone. I'd rather give my money to the small businesses out there who have shown they can be fiscally responsible.

Okay, enough of my ranting. On a lighter note, yeah for the stock market rebound today. Yeah that tomorrow is Friday. And...Go Pats!

You're right. Everyone is getting in line for a bail-out. The US auto industry should be last on the list. American (and foreign) consumers choose imports because the US manufacturers can't compete on a cost or quality basis with foreign competitors (not because of failed foreign relations and trade policies). This is nothing new, and is not a result of recent problems on Wall Street. Rather than asking the government (all US taxpayers) to prop up a failing industry, why not let the industry fail and invest a smaller amount of money retraining the workers in this industry to do something that is sustainable. Get real.
ReplyDeleteI agree 100%...and you said it so much more eloquently than I ever could. Thanks for your insight!

ReplyDeleteI would love a dunkin' donuts bailout for the average "hockey mom" - how about the government mails out gift cards for free coffee to get us through this time - waaaay better than me repeatedly handing them 185 pennies each day....
ReplyDeletetime to kick the habit? (and of course, pick up a new one.... like prostitution - the only industry that is not looking for a financial bailout.....)
Yes, I'd also like an "activities" bailout...thousands of dollars to pay for gymnastics, Irish step, flute, clarinet, acting class, soccer, dance...did I miss anything?
ReplyDeleteShow me the money!
