Zip Lining Through the White Mountains (or Don't Try This at Home)
Hey everyone,
This past Saturday, we decided to take a little family adventure. We ended up near North Conway up in the White Mountains of New Hampshire. We stopped at a cute little tavern for lunch where the waitress recommended a new "ropes course/climbing" facility that was just down the street. It was called Monkey Trunks. (yeah I know, should have been my first clue to pass)
Actually the place is a blast -if you are under 20, flexible, have no fear of heights, are in top physical condition and want to cheat death. My husband and I didn't read that fine print when we signed up. We both figured "how hard can it be?" especially when we saw 7-year-olds strapping on harnesses that weighed more than they did. No sweat.
Well, our 9 and 11-year-olds were off and running immediately, scaling the tight ropes, crawling over nets that were two-stories high in the air, free falling, swinging and zipping through the "discovery" course. Tom and I made it to the first "platform" when we froze and realized that we had discovered enough. He climbed back down. I had to have one of the "safety squad" people actually come and get me down. I'm not kidding!
The kids absolutely LOVED it. A great way to spend an afternoon with the family - but watching counts as a participatory event if you ask me. Here are some pictures of the girls on the course. Every picture here is them. No kidding! Notice anyone missing...
